About Providenciales

Providenciales aka Provo is a small island located in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

The Turks & Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory.

The TCI is located in the Atlantic Ocean just below the Bahamas. We're also very close to the Dominican Republic.

Providenciales is the main kiteboarding island, due to it being the most populated. Kiteboarding is fast becoming the 'big thing' to do on the island. Around 40 local residents kite, but 20 kites out are a busy day.

The other islands have spectatular kite spots.

Weather

The TCI is hot year round. Our summer is between June and November. During August, September, and October there's very little wind. It starts to pick up in the middle of November and usually blows until July. June and July normally are two most consistent months of the year.

Our normal wind conditions are between 14 and 25 knots. We do get storms of 25-35 knots, but not very often.

The water is warm all year round. No need for any wetsuits.

The Islands
The Turks & Caicos islands have 40 different islands and cays. With only 8 being inhabited, those eight being Providenciales, Grand Turk, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, West Caicos, Salt Cay, Parrot Cay, and Ambergris Cay.

Providenciales is the main island with about 30,000 full time residents, and over 200,000 yearly tourists. It is famous for its world class Grace Bay beach, which was ranked number one in the World by Conde' Nast Magazine. The islands have also received many World Travel Awards.

Grand Turk is the capital island, which recently opened a Cruise Center with the worlds largest Margaritaville. In February 2006 the Grand Turk Cruise Center received Porthole Cruise Magazine’s 2006 Editor-in-Chief Award for Best Up-and-Coming Cruise

Destination.

Language etc.
Even though the islands are a British Overseas Territory, they are very American. We use the USD and the electricity is 110 Volt like in the US. English is the primary language spoken, but you will hear Creole often, along with thick Island and Jamaican accents.

The climate is quite hot all year round. In the summer, it can get incredibly hot. So don't forget sun block and deodorant! The weather during the winter months is normally quite nice, with an average temp of around 75F or hotter.
