The kite spots of Providenciales

Look below for a map.

Long Bay

Long Bay is the main kiteboarding spot on Providenciales, and in the whole Turks & Caicos. This beach is near the Shore Club, and less than ten minutes from most Grace Bay resorts and hotels.

Even though it's main beach, 20 kites on a five mile stretch is a busy day!

It's located on the Caicos Banks. This is huge shallow expanse. For thousands of feet out is 4ft-5ft at high tide. During low tide it's about 2ft near the beach. This makes it a perfect spot for learning.

Normal winds are 15-25 knots.

Leeward

The Leeward kiteboarding spot is at the eastern tip of Providenciales. The spot is called Emerald Point and it is along the Leeward Going Through channel. Across from Emerald Point is Little Water Cay. It's home to many Rock Iguanas. Next to Little Water Cay is a big mangrove island and on the other side some butter flat water. When kiting at this spot beware of boats and the sometimes strong current.

Turtle Tail

After a long drive down a long dusty dirt road you will come to a small little cove. When the tide is up the water in the cove is about 1 1/2 feet deep. When low tide the water can be as low as 5 inches. So no big jumps in there! In the cove the wind is gusty, but when you get out of the cove and in the deeper water the wind gets good and there're some really cool swells and a few neat islands.

Grace Bay/Kitebeach

Grace Bay beach is a 7 mile long stretch of powdered white sand. With many fancy resorts it is the most popular beach with the tourists. In the winter months (November to February) it is the most popular beach with the local kiteboarders. In the winter the wind is normally side on and the average wind is 15 to 25 knots. The normal size kites for that time of year is 9 and 12 meter. About a mile off-shore there is a reef where you can kitesurf the waves. But because of the coral and it being far off-shore it is not for beginners and a boat is a necessity.

Leeward Cut - Club Med Cut - Sellars Cut

These are spots along the barrier reef for waves. The reef is located about a mile offshore. In offshore wind a boat is need, however when the wind is side or side on is a quick run out.
