Windvibes 2008

Windvibes 2008 kiteboarding tournament kicked off on Sunday, February 10 at the Long Bay beach.

There was unfortunately little wind and the events that were supposed to include kiter-cross races for kiters of all experience levels, big air contests, and body dragging races, did not happen. The kiters who could get out just played around and had fun. Paul Menta was able to take advantage of what little wind there was to wow the audience with great kiting. It was amazing watching him.

The Windvibes prizes were custom cast medals for the three best kiters, and an all participants draw for the sponsored gear.

It was decided that because of no wind and therefore no races, etc., the three medals would go to the three people who have done the most for kiteboarding in the Turks and Caicos, and for the sport of kiteboarding as a whole.

Windvibes 2008 Winners

1st Randy Hall, the 'Kite Father'

2nd Mike Rosati, who did so much for Windvibes and kiteboarding

3rd Terri Tapper, who brought in the first kite instructor, and was the first female kiter on Providenciales.

So happy, Terri Tapper, Mike Rosati, Randy Hall

The winners champagne!

The prizes were given to the participants through a draw.

Eliza Kurdziel won the main prize, a 133 Imperial Kiteboard sponsored by Cabrinha. She was very happy!

Kadri Kullerupp won the Mystic Warrior Harness sponsored by BLUE. The funny thing is she had just bought a harness from the Nautique Sports gear tent on the beach! She was able to sell it to a friend who's starting kiteboarding.

Marc Keyser won the Sony Ericsson sponsored by Island Com. Unfortunately he had just purchased a new phone recently!

There must have been something with last names starting with 'K'!

Jason Soderqvist won the $500 off any Naish Kite or Sol Board from Blue.

Jack Kohli, the youngest kiter participanting at 11yrs, won the Swedish Massage from Spa Tropique! It was the joke of the day, and rumors are, Mike Rosati, who won a $10 gift certificate from Island Scoop for ice creme, was trying to do a 'trade' with him. Jack didn't fall for the ice creme, though, saying his massage was worth more!

Mike DeCamp won a $10 gift certificate for Island Scoop, too.

Randy Hall won a $25 certificate from Yoshi's Sushi Shop. Enjoy the meal!

Winner of the $5 draw for a brand new Liqud Force kite sponsored by Nautique Sports was Jerry Koop, who only spent $10 dollars on two draw tickets and got a $1000 kite! He has now signed up for lessons.

Sadly, Jaye Gladson, who bought 13 tickets, plus one for her husband didn't win it. Better luck next year, and thanks for supporting Windvibes.

Phylis MacPherson won the free kite lesson from Kite Provo and hopefully we'll see her on the water soon!
